Loan Move to Wolves
Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed Wales midfielder Jordan James on loan from Newport County, with an option to buy at the end of the season. The 26-times capped international returns to the Midlands after leaving boyhood club Birmingham City for French Ligue 1 side Rennes in a reportedly £4m deal. James, 25, had previously spent last season on loan at Leicester City, where he scored 11 goals from midfield to earn player of the season honors, though the Foxes were relegated to League One.
Coach's Comments
Head coach Cesar Peixoto praised James' versatility, stating, 'Jordan is a box-to-box midfielder with a lot of quality and knows the Championship well, which is important for us.' Peixoto highlighted James' ability to play in multiple roles, adding, 'The more players who know the Championship, the better.' This marks James' second loan move of the season, following his stint at Leicester.
Family Legacy
James, son of Wales semi-pro international defender Tony James, inherits a footballing legacy. His father made over 500 league appearances, primarily with Hereford United, Burton Albion, and Newport County. This connection to Newport County underscores the midfielder's deep ties to the region, despite his current transfer to Wolves.
Summer Signings
James is Wolves' fourth summer signing and second since manager Cesar Peixoto's appointment in June. The club has also added Kieran Trippier, Raul Jimenez, and Rafiki Said, reflecting a strategic rebuild ahead of the Championship campaign.
