Rodney Parade will host the 2027 Welsh Cup finals for a fourth successive season. The Football Association of Wales confirmed the decision this week, keeping Wales' premier domestic cup showpieces at the home of Newport County.
Jack Sharp, the FAW Head of Domestic Leagues, said the venue had established itself as an excellent home for the finals in recent years. He added that each season was building on the success of the last and that the association looked forward to returning in April for the conclusion of this year's competitions. He stated the partnership with Newport County and the venue operators is strong and that the location offers excellent facilities and accessibility for fans from across Wales.
This means the FAW Welsh Cup Final and the Bute Energy Welsh Cup Final will both be played in Newport next spring. The women's Bute Energy Welsh Cup Final is scheduled for Sunday 11 April with a 5pm kick-off. The men's FAW Welsh Cup Final follows a week later on Sunday 18 April, starting at 2.35pm. Both matches will be broadcast live on S4C. The FAW noted that ticket information will be released in due course and encouraged supporters to plan their travel early.
The decision cements Rodney Parade's status as the regular destination for these events, despite Newport County competing in the English football pyramid. The club, which currently sits 12th in League Two with 15 points from 12 games, has played its home matches at the shared stadium since 2012. The Exiles are unbeaten in their last five league fixtures, a run that includes a 2-2 draw at Rotherham last Tuesday. The ground is also the home of the Dragons rugby union region.
Last season's finals provided memorable occasions at the ground. The men's final saw Caernarfon Town triumph 3-0 over Flint Town United, while the women's showpiece ended with Cardiff City winning on penalties after a 3-3 draw with Swansea City. The road to the 2027 finals is already underway, with the men's FAW Welsh Cup at the third-round stage and the women's Bute Energy Welsh Cup in its first round. The FAW confirmed that the semi-finals for both competitions will be held at neutral venues prior to the finals in Newport.
Newport County's focus now returns to League Two action, with an away trip to fifth-placed Cheltenham next on the fixtures schedule. The club's recent form, which reads one win and four draws from the last five, has seen them climb to mid-table. Manager Graham Coughlan has praised the squad's resilience. Ticket details for the 2027 cup finals at Rodney Parade will be confirmed by the FAW at a later date. The association also reiterated its commitment to growing the profile of both competitions through the continued partnership with the venue.
