Newport County prepare for a decisive EFL Trophy group stage fixture against Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday evening. The match at Rodney Parade, kicking off at 19:00, sees the two clubs level on three points at the top of Southern Group F.
Group standings and recent form
Newport County enter the contest on the back of a five-game unbeaten run in League Two. Their latest result was a 0-0 draw away at Gillingham last Saturday, a point that leaves them 15th in the fourth-tier table with 10 points from nine matches. The Exiles' recent form in the league reads two wins and three draws, a sequence they will aim to translate into cup success.
Head-to-head history
Recent EFL Trophy meetings between the sides have been tight. Newport County won the corresponding fixture five years ago, a 2-0 victory in August 2021. Plymouth Argyle responded with a 3-1 win later that same season in November 2020. In this season's competition, Newport have scored two goals while Plymouth have netted five.
The manager has not indicated any team selection plans for the match. Newport County's next assignment after this cup tie is a League Two home game against 19th-placed Colchester United this coming Saturday. Check the latest standings for the full League Two picture.
