Newport County AFC has formed a partnership with local venue Matchbox for the 2026-27 season. The deal will see the squad and coaching staff experience padel and pickleball, with opportunities also extended to supporters.
The squad recently visited the venue for a competitive session, with many trying the sports for the first time. The partnership is part of the club's ongoing work to connect with local businesses and the wider community beyond football.
A representative from Matchbox said the visit from the players was a success. "It was brilliant having the Newport County players down at Matchbox," the representative said. "They completely filled the place and there was a great atmosphere throughout."
The representative added that the collaboration felt like a natural fit. "We're really excited to be partnering with Newport County," they said. "We're a local business, they're our local professional football club, so being able to support the team while introducing more players, staff and supporters to padel and pickleball feels like a great partnership."
The news comes as Graham Coughlan's side prepare for their next League Two fixture, sitting 19th in the table with six points from seven games. Their recent form shows three draws and two defeats in the last five outings.
