Newport County have placed Wales midfielder Matt Smith on the transfer list, with forward Ged Garner also made available as the League Two club begin a major squad rebuild. The Exiles are preparing for next season, with their next fixture set for home against Salford City on 2027-02-09.
Who is leaving Rodney Parade?
Smith, 26, joined Newport County in June 2025 from St Johnstone but made just 22 appearances last term, including 13 league starts. Garner, 27, scored twice in 29 games. Both are now surplus to requirements under manager Christian Fuchs.
Courtney Baker-Richardson, Liam Shephard, Anthony Driscoll-Glennon, Jaden Warner, Nelson Sanca, Riley Lonergan and Jac Norris have all departed following the expiration of their contracts.
Which players could stay?
Captain Matt Baker, Bobby Kamwa, Michael Spellman, Ciaran Brennan, Cameron Evans and Keenan Patten are in discussions over new deals. Newport County have also triggered contract extensions for Joe Thomas, Tom Davies and Moses Alexander-Walker.
What about loan players?
Ryan Delaney, Sven Sprangler, Harrison Biggins, Ben Lloyd, Tanatswa Nyakuhwa and Nathaniel Opoku have all returned to their parent clubs after their loan spells ended. Jordan Wright, Shaun MacDonald, Lee Jenkins, Cole Jarvis, Lewis Jamieson and James Crole remain under contract.
