Newport County have confirmed the departure of forward Lewis Jamieson, who has joined Scottish Championship side Ross County for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old, who joined the Exiles in January 2026, now returns to Scotland after a brief spell in south Wales.
Who is Lewis Jamieson?
Jamieson began his career at St Mirren, making over 30 appearances in the Scottish Premiership. He gained valuable experience through loan spells at Clyde, Inverness, Raith Rovers and Airdrie, scoring 19 goals across these stints. In January 2025, he moved to the United States to join Sacramento Republic FC, where he made 25 appearances and scored three times before returning to Europe with Newport County.
Why did Jamieson leave Newport County?
After joining the Exiles in January 2026, Jamieson has now made the move back to Scotland to join Ross County. The club, currently 20th in League Two with 43 points from 46 games (12W-7D-27L), are looking to rebuild ahead of the new season. Jamieson's departure comes after a 4-game winning run, with their last result being a 2-1 victory over Barrow on 2 May 2026.

Ross County manager Stuart Kettlewell expressed his delight at securing Jamieson's services, praising the forward's versatility and goal-scoring ability. "Lewis is experienced at this level and has proven he can score goals and create chances," said Kettlewell. With Jamieson's departure, Newport County will need to look for a replacement to bolster their attacking options. The Exiles finished the 2025-26 season with 48 goals scored and 77 conceded, leaving them 44 points behind league leaders Bromley.
