Mullins Named Manager at Newport County
Newport County have appointed Fulham Under-21 boss Hayden Mullins as their new manager, replacing Christian Fuchs who departed in June. The Exiles have been without a permanent boss since the shock exit of Fuchs.
Following Fuchs' departure - a 2015-16 Premier League title-winner with Leicester City - Newport appointed Chris Todd as their interim manager. However, the League Two club has now named ex-Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Portsmouth player Mullins as their new permanent boss.
Newport assistant manager Mark Smith has departed the club, while Todd is expected to remain in his role overseeing pre-season friendlies against Bristol Manor Farm, Newport City, Gloucester City, and Reading. Todd will also take charge of Newport's first competitive match on August 8th against AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup.
Mullins brings a wealth of experience to Rodney Parade. He is the fourth permanent boss appointed by owner Huw Jenkins since his January 2024 takeover, following Nelson Jardim, Dave Hughes, and Christian Fuchs. His managerial career includes spells at Watford as an under-23s manager and interim senior team boss, Colchester United where he took over permanently in May 2021 before being sacked less than a year later.
Mullins' first match will be on Saturday when Newport County face Yeovil in pre-season. The club's competitive campaign begins with Rochdale at Rodney Parade on August 15th (12:30 BST).
In his first season managing Fulham's Under-21s, Mullins led the team to Premier League Cup glory with a 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s in the final.

Mullins' managerial journey began at Watford where he managed their under-23s and took temporary charge of the senior team following the exits of Quique Sánchez Flores and Nigel Pearson. He joined Colchester United as an assistant manager in 2020, taking over as interim boss before being appointed permanent manager in May 2021.

Newport County's pre-season schedule includes a meeting with Italian giants Roma at Rodney Parade on August 4th (19:00 BST).
